MOSCOW/KYIV – Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service claimed Wednesday that Britain and France intend to transfer nuclear technology to Ukraine, with senior Russian officials warning of potential nuclear retaliation[1]. Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s Security Council deputy chair, stated that such a transfer would constitute direct provision of nuclear weapons to a warring party and would prompt a decisive Russian response, potentially including non-strategic nuclear weapons[1]. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov characterized the alleged plan as a violation of international law and nuclear non-proliferation agreements[1]. Britain, France and Ukraine have denied the claims[1]. The allegations emerge as peace negotiations continue in Geneva involving European security advisors[2].
